Census 2011: India's population 1.21 billion; 17.5 per cent of world

India's population rose to 1.21 billion people over the last 10 years - an increase by 181 million, according to the new census released on Thursday, but significantly the growth is slower for the first time in nine decades.

The population, which accounts for world's 17.5 per cent population, comprises 623.7 million males and 586.5 million females, said a provisional 2011 Census report. China is the most populous nation acounting for 19.4 per cent of the global population.

The country's headcount is almost equal to the combined population of the United States, Indonesia, Brazil, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Japan put together, it said.

The population has increased by more than 181 million during the decade 2001-2011, the report said. The growth rate in 2011 is 17.64 per cent in comparison to 21.15 per cent in 2001.

The 2001-2011 period is the first decade - with exception of 1911-1921 - which has actually added lesser population compared to the previous decade, Registrar General of India and Census Commissioner of India C. Chandramauli said in presence of Home Secretary Gopal K. Pillai.

Among the states and Union territories, Uttar Pradesh is the most populous state with 199 million people and Lakshadweep the least populated at 64,429.

The combined population of UP and Maharashtra is bigger than that of the US.

The highest population density is in Delhi's north-east district (37,346 per sq km) while the lowest is in Dibang Valley in Arunachal Pradesh (just one per sq km).

The Census indicated a continuing preference for male children over female children. The latest child sex ratio in is 914 female against 1,000 male - the lowest since Independence.

"This is a matter of grave concern," Chandramauli said.

According to the data, literates constitute 74 per cent of the total population aged seven and above and illiterates form 26 per cent.

The literacy rate has gone up from 64.83 per cent in 2001 to 74.04 per cent in 2011 showing an increase of 9.21 per cent.

Swedish supercar Koenigsegg to come to India

While the road infrastructure in India leaves much to be desired, the choice for people with the dough has been mind blowing and after the Bugatti Veyron launch now we have the Swedish supercar Koenigsegg being launched at a staggering price of 12.5 crore. It has been reported that it is the second most expensive car in the local market after the 16.2-crore Bugatti that made its debut in November last year.

According to reports, Agera, with 5-litre bi-turbo V8 engine, which boasts of a pulsating 1115 horsepower, gains 100 km/hr speed in just 2.9 second. According to The Economic Times report, the company had produced the CCR model that broke the nine-year-old Guinness World Record of the McLaren - Bugatti in 2005. Keeping the same lineage alive, Koenigsegg churns our limited set of around 16-18 cars every year out of its single manufacturing facility in Sweden. It tunes every car specifically for any particular country, after carefully studying the quality of fuel on offer in local conditions. For example, to meet the needs of its customers in Brazil, the company has developed a bio-fuel run Agera R model specific to that market.

The report mentioned that the Swedish company has tied up with Rahul Bhatia-promoted InterGlobe Enterprises (that also runs low-cost airline Indigo) for launching Agera models in India. The cars would be sold directly to high networth individuals without any dealership network. "We will not set up dealerships but will sell these cars directly to owners that would be determined through our own database. We are dealing in a host of luxury products and would be retailing them directly to customers with complete service backup," Nigel A Harwood, President & CEO of Interglobe Established Products, was quoted as saying but he refused to confirm any sales projections for the car in India.

According to the report, in addition to Koenigsegg, Interglobe plans to launch other super cars like the Gumpert Apollo along with Nostalgia's that are basically Jaguar replicas and the Deronda race cars would also be available though direct sales channels. The report mentioned that Interglobe has also introduced the world fastest-production bike, Vyrus, and highly customised bike, Hollister, in the Indian market. The company also introduced half-a-dozen yatch brands in India.

Before Buying a Home: Dos and Don’ts

For most middle and upper-middle class families, a house is the most expensive asset owned by them. The asset also has emotional value and therefore families should perform meticulous research before buying the same. The following is a set of must-dos before buying a house.

Due diligence of a property:
To ensure credibility of the builder, two must-have documents for a home buyer are the approved drawings of the project and the Intimation of Disapproval (IOD) which is an instruction set pertaining to construction from an authority to the builder.
Buyers looking to buy space in under-construction buildings should obtain a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the lender, if the property is mortgaged, and a commencement certificate which is a proof that the builder has obtained all licenses and permissions from the appropriate statutory authorities. In case the buyer doesn't hold the NOC and the builder defaults on his mortgage payments, the buyer may be evicted from the property. The builder should provide a clear land title, which implies that the property is free of litigation and associated debt. A source of risk for under-construction projects is the uncertainty on completion time.
Banks and housing finance companies (HFCs) are pre-approving residential projects by carrying out property due diligence themselves. This provides credibility to the project from the buyer's perspective. Hence before opting for a loan one can check if the particular project they are interested in is pre-approved.
The buyer should ensure that the property he is evaluating has adequate water supply and there is no problem of voltage fluctuation which can damage electrical appliances.

Evaluation of hidden costs:
Buyers ought to be wary about per square feet price quoted by builders, as there are myriad hidden costs not captured in the quote. Stamp duty and registration fees are mandatory fees and amount to approximately 5% of the value of the property. Majority of urban property purchases are financed by home loans and therefore there is the cost of an insurance policy to cover the loan. Customizing the property to the buyer's tastes and preferences entails a substantial expenditure on purchase of, interior furnishing, furniture and white goods. Liabilities like unpaid telephone and electricity bills may be present in case of a second hand property.

Accessing your home loan:
It is advisable for buyers to approach a bank or housing finance company only after selecting the property to buy. Some banks are averse to financing purchases of more than 15 years old property which has been resold more than twice. Financing purchases of under construction properties, which are not listed with any of the banks for pre-approved loans, is difficult. Large builders may have tie ups with banks or HFCs which offer lower rates and lend up to 85% of the property value. It is always advisable for borrowers to lower their loan exposure.

Interest rate on home loan:
As per the prevailing economic situation, floating rate loans score over fixed rate loans. Transparent floating rate home loans are at least 2% cheaper than a loan of identical tenure. There is the risk of rate charged on a floating rate loan being revised upwards when market rates rise. 90% of home loan consumers opt for floating rate loans making it difficult for policymakers to raise interest rates dramatically. The buyer should check whether a bank passes on the benefit of reduced rates to the consumer by going through its past record of benchmark rates say in 2002-03.

Other charges associated with a home loan:
These should be looked into to understand the exact amount of expenses the buyer would incur towards the home loan. Processing fees, amounting to 0.5-1% of loan amount is charged by most lenders, in addition to administrative fees and legal charges during loan disbursement. The buyer has to pay stamp duty which depends on the amount of the loan and the state in which the property is purchased. Prepayment charges are levied on loan repayments made over and above the amount stipulated by the repayment schedule. Making EMI payments after the due date attracts delayed payment charges. Hence, it makes sense for the buyer to take into consideration the total loan cost or money outgo throughout the loan tenure when comparing loan offers. This will provide a clear picture of which loan is the most affordable for the buyer.

India Pakistan Clash - 30 th March

Mohali: An India-Pakistan match is almost always a big money-spinner, and a World Cup semi-final clash is as big as it gets. Bookies and punters across the country are gearing up to run a show that is estimated to rake in Rs. 5,000 crore on the betting circle as India takes on Pakistan in the semi-final at Mohali on March 30.
Minutes after India's win over Australia in the quarter-final clash at Ahmedabad, bookies unable to predict a clear winner have rated both India and Pakistan at 90 paise to win the semi-final clash. "Both are strong teams. But the rates could reopen on Friday," informed a senior bookie.
Even as the police stepped up vigil, bookies fear that members of the Dawood Ibrahim gang could make a windfall from the turnover. Dawood's presence in Karachi could play a major role in the outcome of the match fear Mumbai bookies.
There are reasons to suspect that some of the bookies owing allegiance to the D Company may default under pressure from Dawood's henchmen. "The possibility of sauda fok is not ruled out if Pakistan loses the match against India,'' a senior bookie pointed out.
Joint Commissioner of Police (crime) Himanshu Roy on the other hand said his men are on alert looking out for bookies and punters. "We are trying to track them," remarked Roy.
Insiders informed that the India-Pak match is expected to bring a windfall to hawala operators across the sub-continent. A large number of high profile bookies from Pakistan are planning to 'cut' their bets through Dubai, which is the hub of illegal money transfers during the betting season.
The seriousness of the terror threat to the World Cup final at Wankhede Stadium can be gauged from the fact that the Commissioner of Police Arup Patnaik is personally supervising security arrangements.
The first layer of security will comprise a mobile combat team of one sub-inspector and four men under the command of an Assistant Commissioner of Police. They will be armed with two AK-47 assault rifles, one Sten gun, two SLRs and five 9mm pistols.
The second layer will comprise 20 personnel from the Quick Response Team (QRT). Four special bulletproof vehicles commanded by a sub-inspector will also be positioned in the area.
QRT personnel will be equipped with bulletproof trucks  (Maharakshaks). Each truck will have a complement of nine commandos and one officer.
The Intelligence Bureau (IB) issued a fresh directive to all police departments to look out for terror suspects who might enter the country through  Wagah on the pretext of watching the India-Pakistan match at Mohali.
IB officials said they have reasons to suspect that a number of Pakistani spectators who came into the country to watch the cricket matches have not returned.

5 Tips to Keep Your Girl Happy

When a relationship fails, it leaves one wondering what went wrong in an absolutely perfect relationship. Some relationships aren’t able to stand the test of time due to the various differences between the couple.
These differences do not crop up within a single day and it takes various steps to lead a relationship to its breakdown. From a woman’s perspective, here are 5 tips which can help you guys make your
relationship a better experience for your girl and yourself as well. As the saying goes, “Sometimes love just ain’t enough,” hence, we bring you certain tips that might help you fill the void that has been growing with every passing day.

  • Don’t Lie- It is an open secret that most, if not all, men lie. While some lie about trivial things, some lie about things of much greater significance. However, the very act of lying isn’t justified under any means. Nobody likes being lied to which is the case with women as well. They might forgive you for lying but they certainly don’t forget that easy. The fact that lied to her once gives the notion that you might do the same again and again. The very act brings about a dip in the trust factor which is crucial in every relationship.
  • Try Not to Break Promises - No, promises are not meant to be broken! Once you make a promise to your girl, try to keep it. A girl pins a great deal of expectations to every single promise you make. Each promise that you break leads to disappointment, which shouldn’t have any room in a relationship.
  • Pay Attention - You are undisputedly the centre of the world for your girl so, she expects you keep in mind the little things that matter much to her. While it may not be humanely possible to remember names of her entire clan, it certainly isn’t that difficult to listen to what she says. Paying attention to small details and remembering some of them would make her feel wanted and also show her that you are equally interested in even the tiniest details of her life.
  • Offer to Help - For a couple, it is important to share the workload. You might be the busiest person on this planet but you still owe some contribution towards the household work. While she may not expect you to go out of your way and do all the chores yourself, she would at the least expect you to offer to help. Remember, a small gesture goes a long way in building a strong level of bond between the two of you.
  •  Remember Those Special Dates - Forgetting her birthday or your anniversary is so not cool. Many of you may think that dates are not really that important and that it shouldn’t make any difference in the kind of relationship that you share. Fact is, special dates give you an excuse to celebrate your togetherness and also remind her that you do care. Making that little effort on your part will only make her feel happier and re-assure her that she isn’t wasting her time on a dumb bloke.

World wide web 2011: Focusing on internet's next billion users

Did you know that less than 10 percent of the Indian population uses the world wide web? Or that the next billion users of the internet will come from emerging markets like Brazil, China, India, Indonesia and Russia?

The future of the web will be under discussion at the 20th international World Wide Web Conference (WWW2011) here, a prestigious event that India, with one of the world's fastest growing population of internet users, will host for the first time. Beginning March 28, it will be attended by 800 delegates from 49 countries.

'The conference will debate the future of the Web, which is important for India,' S. Sadagopan, director of the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) in Bangalore, told IANS.

'It is more relevant for India, especially in the context of high mobile penetration among the younger generation, improving literacy levels, large young and English-speaking population.'

IIIT, Bangalore, in cooperation with the IIIT, Hyderabad, and the Institute of Information Technology, Bombay (Mumbai) , is hosting the event.

The five-day meet has the theme 'web for all'. It will debate technical challenges in overcoming the digital divide and ways to bring the web to underserved populations. The event will be addressed by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the WWW Conference director and inventor of the web. It will also have research papers that can shape the web of tomorrow.

World wide web currently has two billion users. However, of the 4.8 billion people living in Asia and Africa, only one in five has access to the web. In India, for instance, the 100 million web users constitute less than 10 percent of the total population of 1.2 billion.

The event will discuss challenges like developing content in local languages, poor PC penetration and lack of infrastructure to connect the next billion users.

WWW2011 will discuss, debate and help set the future direction of the Web. It will focus on the regional and global impact of expanding open Web platform for application development.

Tim Berners-Lee will deliver a visionary keynote address on 'designing the web for an open society'.

With the social media witnessing explosive growth, there will also be a panel discussion on 'Social media: source of information or bunch of noise?'.

According to conference organizers, Wikipedia has over 3.5 million pages with descriptions of entities. Flickr members have uploaded over five billion photos, YouTube has 35 hours of videos uploaded to the site each minute, and Twitter users generate 65 million tweets a day.

Is there useful information in social media like tweets, how to sift through the vast amounts of social media and filter out the spam/offensive content are some of the questions the participants will debate.

The participants include chief information officers, IT directors and decision-makers from the public and private sector and researchers, technologists and developers from institutions and technology-driven businesses.

There will be 81 technical papers, 90 posters, 25 demos, 12 tutorials, nine workshops and a PhD Symposium.

'It is a research conference. It brings out best of the research in the world,' said Sadagopan. Referring to the quality of research, he said 80 best papers were selected from almost 700 papers submitted from around the world.

The accepted papers have been put into various categories like search, local language content, access, privacy, avoiding pornography, data mining.

These research papers shape the Web of tomorrow. Technologies and scientific innovations come from such a research.

India fired up for Aussie challenge: Dhoni

Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni vowed his team will be at their best when they face defending champions Australia in the World Cup quarter-finals.

India sealed an 80-run win over West Indies in the concluding group match of the tournament in Chennai on Sunday, but only after a spectacular collapse by the brittle Caribbean side, who crashed from 154-2 to 188 all out.

While India will tackle Australia in Ahmedabad on Thursday, the West Indies take on in-form Pakistan in Dhaka on Wednesday in the opening quarter-final tie.

"We will be at our best for the quarter-finals," said Dhoni.

"Australia are a very strong side and very expressive on the field. But it's about how we prepare for the game to achieve what we want.

"In the process, we hope to give our best."

Dhoni praised strike bowler Zaheer Khan, whose three wickets included the key dismissal of opener Devon Smith who had made 81 when he was clean-bowled, a wicket which precipitated the West Indies collapse.

"He changed the game. He got the breakthrough by getting rid of Smith. Once we got his wicket, we were able to put pressure on all the batsmen at both ends."

All-rounder Yuvraj Singh was man of the match for his 113 runs and 2-18 with the ball.

Yuvraj overcame illness to help his team to victory and doubled-up in pain during his innings.

"I had stomach cramps and I was struggling in the morning but I was just worried about the match and the team," said Yuvraj.

Zaheer praised his team's tactics which saw the new ball tossed to spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

"We knew that with the new ball it would come on to the bat and that the seamers would get reverse swing later on in the innings, so that's why we used a spinner to open the bowling," said Zaheer, who took 3-26.

Is “Chalta Hai” your defining motto?

WANT to go somewhere but don’t know the way? Simple. Just punch in your destination on one of those websites that offer maps and – bingo – you will get directions on how to get there. Unfortunately, that’s not the case with your goals in life. Those websites don’t offer roadmaps to get to your goals!

Most young people have similar goals. They want to be loved, healthy, happy, and successful. And rich! And here’s the problem. As we set off on the journey towards our goals, two paths emerge ahead of us. One looks like a fast and easy road – full of short cuts. It’s the path of least resistance. And the other is a long hard road, often strewn with obstacles. And - no prizes for guessing – most of us take the easy way out!

And that becomes a habit. We look for short cuts all the time. We compromise. We don’t push ourselves to succeed; we merely set ourselves the objective of not failing. We don’t play to win. We just want to avoid losing.

And so we love tips like “If you study these three sections, you can get 35 marks”. Or ‘if you attend classes twice a week, you won’t be in the black list.” Unfortunately, this attitude pervades our life and becomes a habit. We stop striving for the greatness that we are all capable of. “Chalta Hai” becomes our defining motto. And as someone rightly said, ‘Good is the enemy of Great’.

There once lived a sculptor in a small town. He was working on a huge idol of a Goddess that he was making for the local temple, when a young man walked into his workshop. As the young man marveled at the idol, he suddenly noticed another idol, almost identical, lying on the ground. “Do you need two of these?” he asked. “No,” came the reply. “We only need one. But the first one got damaged in the finishing stages. Hence I am doing it again.”

The young man looked closely at the idol on the ground. It looked perfect. He could not see any signs of damage. “Where is the flaw?” he asked. “Look carefully,” said the sculptor, “and you will notice a scratch under the left eye.” “Wait a minute!” said the young man. “Where will this idol be installed?”

The sculptor explained that it would be on a platform fifteen feet high inside the temple. And the young man quickly retorted, “At that distance, who will know there is a scratch beneath the eye?” The sculptor smiled and said, “I will.”

Now that’s a good reminder of what excellence is all about. It comes from inside, not from outside. And it’s an attitude. One we would all do well to inculcate.

Commit to doing your best at all times. Don’t compromise, ever. Whatever you do, give off hundred percent. Aim to be the best at whatever you do. And do that not because someone else tells you to do it – but because YOU want to.

And make sure you always, always do the right thing. Don’t tell yourself it’s okay, no one will notice. Remember, someone is watching all the time. And that someone is you. Your character is defined not by how you behave when you know others are watching – but by what you do when no one is looking.

If you create an idol with a scratch and think no one will notice, you will soon find another scratch appearing in your work and then another. And you will spend a lot of time and effort hiding those scratches, covering up, hoping no one notices. And instead of becoming a master sculptor, you become a patch-up artist. And your life – instead of becoming a masterpiece – becomes just another flawed piece of work. And in either case, what makes the difference is not the skill. It’s always your attitude.

Get the sculptor’s attitude. Commit to excellence. And make your life a masterpiece.

Tips For Safe Holi - Happy Holi !!!!

Holi is meant to be a rough festival with tradition of applying colors to the guests, family and friends with or without their consent. Any kind of rudeness or misbehavior is totally forgiven on this day but these kinds of fun related things must be participated under a certain limits. Fun, food and colors is all that should spread on this holy day of Holi.

Holi is regarded as the festival of joy and colors, but one should always be on alert while playing Holi because, if accident happens, it can ruin the spirit of that day. Also, one should always remember to use these small precautions so that no one that you know or love gets hurt unknowingly. Below are some of the ‘Dos and Don'ts’ that are necessary to enjoy Holi to its fullest.

“DO’s”

    * Dental caps are a good idea to protect you teeth from staining.

    * Sunglasses go a long way in keeping your eyes safe from the harmful chemicals of the colors.

    * Wear old and ragged clothes that you can be at easilydiscard while playing Holi, as your clothes may never look wearable again with all those color stains.

    * Brightly collared and dark collared clothes are preferable for the mood of the day.

    * Wear full-sleeved t-shirt or shirts that cover your arms fully. Socks will be a good idea too.

    * Always put some amount of oil on your head and body. Apply thick coating of paint on your nails- both in fingers and toes so that they remain protected.

    * Granted that it is almost impossible to save you face from attack of colors, so while being attacked, keep eyes and lips tightly closed or one can apply good amount of oily body lotion or oil to the body so that it does not become dry after taking bath this procedure will help you to wash off colors easily later on.

    * If you are traveling, keep the car windows tightly shut. Better still; avoid traveling on Dhuledi, the day of playing colors.

    * Use a hat, cap or anything like that to protect your hair from being collared with hard-to Rinse dyes.

    * Put on your worst gears so that you won't have to take on the hassles of an immediate Washing.

    * Do not bump into the frenzied group of mob if you take to streets. Better you cross the Road to the sidewalk across. Or, simply stay at a safe distance.

    * While washing off the color, use lukewarm water and keep your eyes and lips tightly Closed.

“Don’ts”
    * Discourage your children to play Holi with eggs, mud or gutter water. Never turn a blind eye to such unclean ways of celebration.

    * Avoid use of abir as it has flakes of mica.

    * If you do not want your children and family to participate in the revelry, have a nice and quiet holiday at home. Your children should be confident enough to take the decision of not participating in the Holi celebrations. Teach them not to fall prey to pressure.

    * Teach your children to respect other’s independence during Holi. For instance, you should stop your children from forcing Holi celebrations on a hesitant neighbor.

    * If you fancy a glass of bhang (grass of the opium plant mashed and mixed with milk or sweets), go ahead. But let your family not get carried away. Your children should not get addicted to this intoxicating drink. Holi revelry should be contained within decent limits.

    * Avoid loud and rowdy Holi parties, which might spoil the family environment. Children get accustomed to such parties at a very early age and tend to repeat the same type of celebrations later in life.

    * Don’t walk alone on the streets on the Holi day. You’ll be a sure target for miscreants. . Play Holi only with a group of close friends and relatives as against strangers.

    * Use only powdered color and water.

    * Keep a big bucket of water handy for your children, so that they do not resort to gutter water and other unclean sources.

    * Roll your windows up while driving your car.

    * Be available at one venue throughout Holi, especially if you want to avoid rowdy Holi revelers.

    * Always take some moments off to know the cultural significance of Holi. It is a festival of color, a harbinger of the spring season, and not a dirty game.

Indian Prays for England Defeat - England Do or Die Situation

After many weeks of preliminary matches in the league phase, this will be the first time one of the top eight teams face the threat of elimination from the 2011 World Cup. If England fail to beat West Indies in their final league match, they will end up on only 5 points, and since each of South Africa, India, West Indies and Bangladesh have 6 or more points, there will be no way for England to qualify for the quarter-finals.

England: They have had the strangest of tournaments, where each of their five matches has resulted in a close finish. Sometimes the finish might have been too close for the mental well-being of their fans. The oddity of their results does not end there - they have somehow contrived to lose to Ireland and Bangladesh, while not doing so against India and South Africa. England's main problem throughout the World Cup has been that they haven't had a game where they have done well with both bat and ball. If one department has succeeded, the other has let it down. The batsmen did well against Netherlands, India and Ireland, while the bowlers came to the party only against South Africa. Against Bangladesh, neither the batters nor the bowlers did well throughout the innings.
Andrew Strauss and Andy Flower form amongst the more stable partnerships in world cricket, but somehow their team has displayed muddled thinking that is uncharacteristic of the captain-coach duo. Injuries have not helped England's cause, but given that they got back their best ODI batsman in Eoin Morgan only due to an injury, they cannot complain too much either. What England need now is a concerted effort from their full playing eleven to keep them alive in the World Cup. A minor concern that they will hope doesn't blow up into a major one was the stomach bug that Strauss and Swann contracted. Both, however, were expected to be fit in time for the match.

West Indies: In an anti-thesis of what England have done, they have won fairly comfortably against the minnows of Group B, but been rolled over by South Africa. While England may have been beaten by Ireland and Bangladesh, West Indies will be aware that it was at Chennai that England stopped the mighty South Africans, and that on a pitch that affords turn, Graeme Swann will be lethal. West Indies have the firepower in Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard, and the batting talent in Darren Bravo, to overcome England's bowlers. This has been a relatively quiet tournament for Gayle, while Pollard has been explosive and Bravo has looked sublime in patches.
Their bowling was a weak link coming into the tournament, but with Kemar Roach and Suleiman Benn coming into their own, that doesn't look as weak anymore. The West Indies have not touched the heights of the 70s and early 80s in terms of world domination, and though they aren't anywhere close to doing so now - under captain Darren Sammy the team seems to have acquired an extra layer of toughness coupled with a fierce desire to do well. They have several game-changers in their ranks, who every opposition in the world has to be wary of, and they will know that a win here will seal their quarter-finals berth. A loss here could mean a potentially tricky final match with India, and West Indies will want to avoid the nerves that such a match would entail.

Head to Head: There isn't much to separate the teams in overall records, with West Indies having won 41 and England 37 of the 87 matches that they have played in (9 no results). Rather surprisingly, in World Cups, England have won 4 out of 5 matches that they have played against West Indies. England though, would have gladly exchanged those four victories for that one match - because the match they lost to West Indies was the final of the 1979 World Cup.

Teams:
England :
Matt Prior(w), Andrew Strauss(c), Jonathan Trott, Ian Bell, Ravi Bopara, Eoin Morgan, Paul Collingwood, Michael Yardy, Graeme Swann, James Anderson, Tim Bresnan, James Tredwell, Ajmal Shahzad, Luke Wright, Chris Tremlett
West Indies : Devon Smith, Chris Gayle, Darren Bravo(c), R Sarwan, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Kieron Pollard, Darren Sammy, Devon Thomas(w), Sulieman Benn, Nikita Miller, Kemar Roach, Ravi Rampaul, Andre Russell, Kirk Edwards, Devendra Bishoo

20 ideas to make money online

Blogging
If you're a passionate closet writer who wants to be published but can't find a way to do so, make each keystroke your way to wealth by penning your own blog. Starting a blog doesn't require extensive technical skills but it's important that you have expertise in the field you are writing on. This will attract visitors to your site. Building a large following will enable you to earn profit by luring advertisers, writing paid reviews or getting commissions for promoting other people's products.
Paid WritingIf maintaining a blog is difficult for you but you still want to indulge your passion for writing, you can jot down articles for other blogs or sites such as Weblogs, Helium or PayPerPost. Writing an e-book can also be a good option. E-books are investment free, with no cost for printing and shipping. If you have a strong command over languages, you can become a copy editor, where Webmasters will pay you to read articles and correct grammatical errors, sentence fragments, etc.
e-tuitions/Webinars
The demand for tutors is high and growing. So, if you like helping others learn, e-teaching could be the earning ticket for you. All you need to become an online tutor is expertise in your subject and a few spare hours per week. TutorVista, e-tutor, SmartThinking and Tutor.com are some of the sites you can enroll with. If you gain a good reputation as a coach, you could even conduct Webinars-lectures or seminars transmitted over the Net. College and university students are willing to pay to gain entry to a well-respected Webinar.
Affilliate/ResellerFor those who have the knack of selling, one of the best ways to make money online is to become an affiliate/reseller. An affiliate is a person who gets a commission for selling every product that he promotes, whether on his Website or through any other avenue such as eBay. You don't have to own the product. You only need to sign up for an affiliate program with a company and start selling its products under your referral link. Firms such as Commission Junction or Click Bank have a large pool of products.
Buying/Selling domains
Buying and selling domain names is another way to make money from home and requires very little investment or time. You can buy domains at their registration prices or even cheaper and trade them at a profit. However, always research on sites such as sedo.co.uk, afternic.com, ebay.com or other domain auction sites to get an estimate of the hottest selling names. The best way to find good ones is to use terminated domain lists, which contain several expired names that are back in the pool.
Freelancing for Professionals
Freelancing is a great option for professionals who are experts in their respective trades and know how to ensure customer satisfaction. Various freelancing and project-oriented sites allow companies that need help to describe their projects. Freelancers and small businesses offer bids, ideas or proposals, from which the buyers can choose what they find most suitable. Websites such as Elance cover everything from programming and writing to data entry and design, while RentACoder focuses on software programming.
Advertising
You can sell space on your Website or blog for advertisements and you earn when these ads are clicked by visitors to your site. The sorting and placing of ads is free. The profitability of pay-per-click advertising depends on the traffic level of the Website and, most importantly, on the clickthrough rate and cost per click. Google AdSense is the most popular option, while others are BidVertiser, Text Link Ads and Blogads. Direct banner and RSS feed are some other forms of online advertising.
GPT ProgrammeGPT or Get-paid-to sites are becoming increasingly popular among teens. You get paid for signing up for free Websites, newsletters, playing games and filling out online surveys. These are suitable for people who don't have a skill set but want to earn extra money. Taking online surveys is simple- register with a few legitimate, paid survey sites and answer questions. The topics range from shopping to politics. This might not help you make a living, but you can earn good pocket money. Contests2win is one of the trusted GPT Websites.
Online Marketing
Once a Website is created and optimised for search engine (SEO), the SEM or Search Engine Marketing begins. A treasure trove lies hidden here. An SEO/SEM expert, who is responsible for marketing a Website, can promote it in various ways. These include article marketing, writing press releases, forum posting, blog posting, submitting your site to directories and search engines, social bookmarking, etc. Most companies don't do this in-house and pay you to conduct the SEM for them.
Making themes
As more and more people seek an online presence, the demand for Website templates and WordPress (Blog) themes will keep increasing. If you are good at Web designing and coding, you can earn a lot from designing Web themes. In this segment, there are mainstream Websites, such as TemplateMonster and ThemeForest, which act as a marketplace where you can sell your themes. Templates are sold and priced depending on the rights and features that are bundled with them.
Selling photosIf you enjoy photography and are good with a camera, you could be sitting on a huge reserve of revenue. There are people who will be interested in your collection of images. Nowadays, it's easy to take your photos to the public, providing a convenient way to build a secondary income stream. Many stock photo agencies, such as Fotolia, Dreamstime and Shutterstock, offer incentives for people to earn from their photos.
Support & service
Providing coding or fixing other Webmasters' issues is another great way to earn extra bucks. There are simple jobs ranging from adding a script to setting up sites, but knowledge of Web coding is essential. One can offer support for Web CMS (content management systems) like Drupal or Joomla. After you are comfortable with your own installation, you can help other people to set these up and configure them.
Stock/forex trading
Joining the stock/forex market may seem a bit risky. However, you can start small and continue researching till you gain experience in this area. Once you do, it will be easy to earn from exchanging foreign currencies and/or stocks. Their rates fluctuate depending on supply and demand, and economic and political influences in the world. The aim of any trader is to spot which currency/stock is likely to rise or fall in value against another. The more time you put in, the more you will earn.
Selling your own brand
If you have a flair for designing cool images, don't bother about creating your own inventory. As long as your design can be printed on a product, you can pocket some money. You can upload designs on various Websites such as CafePress, and if somebody orders these designs, the company will print them and distribute the products. It could be designs for T-shirts, hats, bags, books, posters, calendars, greeting cards, etc. You will receive a commission for each sale. Other such sites include Lulu and Zazzle.
Virtual Assistant
Small businesses always need help in running their processes, but may not be willing to hire a full-time employee. As a virtual assistant, you are expected to perform practically any administrative task that a traditional secretary or assistant would, such as make travel reservations, handle expense reimbursements or pay bills. You can do it from the comfort of your home, interacting with clients either online or by phone. Your expertise will decide how much moolah you rake in.
Inbound call centre
Many companies, who are facing space constraints, especially those in metro cities, prefer to hire workers outside their offices or outsource certain processes. You can set up an inbound call centre at home to handle such jobs. Research different companies that are outsourcing their work as they may have opportunities for inbound call centre agents. You can work for more than one company. This can be either a part-time or fulltime engagement, depending on your need.
You TubeIf there's a dramatic performer hidden inside you who craves applause and adulation, upload yourself on YouTube. You can be a filmmaker, musician or comedian who wants a wider audience. Your earnings will come from ads displayed on your video page. This process is similar to the pay-per-click advertising program common to other Websites and blogs. Sites such as Flixya and Mediaflix can be helpful in this regard.
Researching for others
Don't be morose if you can't write, design or code. Lack of talent cannot stop you from making money online. If you're willing to work hard for a few hours a week, you can take up simple research jobs for other people who don't have the time to do it themselves. You could search for opportunities in organisations that provide funding for research and offer to assist them through online investigation.
Building ApplicationsWith smartphones gaining popularity, the demand for their applications, or apps as they are popularly known, has also shot up. There are over 3 million apps for the iPhone and over a million apps in Google's Android market. Most of these are selling like hot cakes. Developing and selling your own smartphone app is becoming a lucrative way to make money on the Internet. Apps cost virtually nothing to develop and entail no storage or shipping costs. So they enjoy the best profit margins.
TranscriptionMedical transcription involves making written copies of oral material dictated by doctors or other medical experts. These may include history and physical reports, clinical notes, consultation notes, reports, letters, psychiatric evaluation and so on. The dictated material needs to be transcribed swiftly and accurately, which is the most challenging aspect of the job. To become a medical transcriptionist, you need to have a good knowledge of medical terminology and a high typing speed along with accuracy.

Will Razia edge out Sheila and Munni?

Mallika Sherawat 's item number Razia gundo mein phas gayee in Anees Bazmee's Thank You has been touted as the next big thing in Bollywood after Munni Badnaam and Sheila Ki Jawani. However, most people who have had a glimpse of the promos, which started airing last weekend, are rather disappointed with the picturisation.Despite Mallika's presence, the song-composed by Pritam neither has Malaika's energy from the Dabangg -hit Munni Badnaam, nor does it have the promise of Katrina's effortless oomph from the Tees Maar Khan- anthem, Sheila Ki Jawani . Razia has been sung by budding playback singer Ritu Pathak-a former Indian Idol contestant-and Master Saleem. It has been written by rising lyricist Ashish Pandit."Item songs help in the marketing of a film in its pre-release stage. They build the hype for a film and grab eyeballs. Dabangg benefitted hugely from Munni Badnaam while Sheila Ki Jawani ensured good initials for Tees Maar Khan, although the latter flopped owing to poor content."The problem with Razia is that, although the song is a winner, the makers have failed to do justice to the spirit and mood of the number. It looks like any routine item number. Even B-grade item songs are not tacky these days. Unfortunately, the makers of Thank You seem to be unaware of this," a noted Bollywood producer said.Of course, half the battle is won just because of Mallika's presence. Apart from her natural sex appeal, the siren is known to generate ample hype over whatever she does.In this case, Razia marks the return of Mallika on the silver screen after almost three years, so the expectations are high. She left for an unsuccessful Hollywood tryst after her back- to- back releases in 2008 - Ugly Aur Pagli and Maan Gaye Mughall-e-Azam flopped."Mallika needs a bang to return to Bollywood. Razia is hardly the song that can ensure it," the producer said.

Hottest Cricketing Females

Cricket fever is reaching its peak with the setting in of the World Cup quarter-finals. While the cricketing men are being glorified as mini-Gods, there are some who lurk in the shadows of their success.

They are the women cricketers who never get their due despite putting up amazing performances on the field and looking hot each time they do so. We take at look at some of the female cricketers who are the hottest of the lot.

Isa Guha

Isa Guha is a World Cup winning pace bowler who plays for England. Originally of Indian origin, Guha made her Test debut against India in the year 2002. To top it all, Guha even had a dinner date with Prince Charles last month at Windsor Castle during the annual dinner of the British Asian Trust. What could be cooler than that?

Lisa Carprini Sthalekar

Need we say anything more than state the fact that she was Australia’s International Woman Player of the Year in 2007 and 2008 respectively. In case we do, then we should mention the fact that she was born in Pune after which her father decided to move to Kenya and, later, Australia where she found the success that she most definitely deserved.

Aimee Mason

Mason is a batswoman from New Zealand. She was the vice-captain of the team during the 2009 World Cup. Considered one of the leading all-rounders in ODI cricket, she idolises Adam Gilchrist and is a big hitter just like him.

Ellyse Perry

Perhaps one of the most talented sportsperson Australia has seen, Perry made her debut in cricket along with football at the tender age of 16. She is the youngest person, both male and female, to represent Australia in cricket. She is a key bowler on field for the Australian team and is equally hot off it.

Rosalie Birch

Currently a member of the English Cricket team, Birch is a lower middle order batswoman. She won the 'Player of the Match' Award in her very first ODI match and has gone ahead to build a remarkable career since her debut. We should also mention that she is a stunner in the looks department as suggested from the picture.

Cecelia Joyce

This lady belongs to the Irish team and is has been playing in the national team since they were 14. In fact, she comes from a cricketing family with her twin sister Isobel, brothers Ed, Dominick and Gus having played for the Irish team. Along with the rest of the family, she continues to steer Ireland's cricket to the power and glory they deserve.

Sara McGlashan

She is the wicketkeeper for New Zealand and is considered to be an immensely versatile player. She excels with the bat and also with the ball as the wicketkeeper. Her brother Peter McGlashan also played for New Zealand in two T20 and four ODI matches. So cricket apparently runs in their blood going by the brother-sister pair representing the nation.

Laura Marsh

This cute looking England spinner started playing cricket at the age of 11. She made her test debut against India in 2006 and played a crucial role in retaining the Ashes in 2008 and 2009 respectively. She continues to play for the team along side being a regular in county cricket
